Headlamp aids prostate and pelvic surgery
Last August the Northampton Prostate Support Group held a Sunday afternoon barbecue as part of their support group event calendar. They used the event to raise money to purchase a much needed Headlight for the Urology Consultants here at NGH.
The barbecue was financed by the Northampton Prostate Support Groups funds and the treasurer kindly offered the use of their garden. With help from neighbours and a great deal of enthusiastic organisation, the event was held on a delightful sunny afternoon and 25 people had a most enjoyable time together. The auction of donated items raised £128 and together with generous donations of cash, plus three cheques from members unable to attend, a total of £600 was raised. Although they are not a fundraising group, it was felt to be a particularly worthy cause and they were very pleased with the results.
John Beatty said “The latest headlamp technology provides exceptional light and comfort without the need for a power source attached to the wall. Enhanced battery life ensures that the surgeon is able to focus the light into the deep recesses of the pelvic surgical incision for prolonged periods of time. The urology consultants are very pleased with the new headlamp bought for them by the Northampton Prostate Support Group and now use it routinely for open prostate and pelvic surgery. It is hard to imagine doing open surgery without it. A special thanks to all those that helped raised money from the Northampton Prostate Support Group. We are extremely grateful to have their support”.
