Drinks All Round In Nuclear Medicine

Councillor Choudary returned to the hospital to see the drinks dispenser that his sponsorship money had purchased following last years walk around Abingdon Park.

The drinks machine will be offered to patients in the Medical Physics department who are undergoing radioactive tracer procedures or stress exercise as part of the new cardiac nuclear medicine service.

Martyn Farmer, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technician from the Medical Physics department said: Many of the patients attending for nuclear medicine examinations are required to increase their fluid intake. This significantly improves the quality of the pictures we take as well as helping the tracers given to the patients pass through the body more quickly. Patients that have been referred to our new cardiac nuclear medicine service are required to have a drink with a higher fat content; this newly installed drinks dispenser allows them to choose milky hot chocolate drinks which help us to get a clear view of the heart.  Having the new drinks machine in the department offers patients a greater choice making it easier for them to drink plenty.’
