About the Charity

History

The Charitable fund really came into being in 1994, this was at the same point the hospital became an NHS Trust. Unto that point the Charitable Fund had been administered by the District health Authority. However it was decided that the Charitable Fund should become more streamlined, and that each ward and unit should just have one account for charitable donations. There is a story that one unit, prior to 1994, had 57 different accounts! So on the recommendation of the Charity Commission a streamlining exercise took place.
